2011 Wildlife Weekend Photo Contest and Show

It’s that time again…

Friends will again be sponsoring an amateur photography contest and show in conjunction with the annual Wildlife Weekend celebration at the Park.  Amateur photographers of all ages, including children and teens, are encouraged to participate. Eligible photographs must be taken at Steele Creek Park in Bristol, Tennessee and be focused on the natural aspects of the park.  Prizes will be awarded, based on the general interest, creativity, and technical merits of the photographs.  Professional and/or experienced amateur photographers from the Bristol area will serve on the panel of judges. All entries will be displayed at the Wildlife Weekend celebration, scheduled for October 14 – 15.

According to Sonie Schermer, President of Friends, “The photography contest and show is a very popular event at Wildlife Weekend.  We receive entries of photos of our beautiful park from photographers in the surrounding areas, of all ages, from youngest to oldest, and at all ability levels.  This year we’re excited about the entries from the Kids Photo Camps offered at the Park this summer.  Steele Creek Park offers a diversity of subject areas to spark each individual’s interest.  We have a permanent display of previous entries at the Park and at Slater Center.  Please help spotlight the beauty of our green gem, Steele Creek Park, by taking images that will make her shine.”

The deadline for submitting photographs is Friday, September 30, 2011.   Complete rules and application form are available to download here.  They are also available to be picked up at the Nature Center, the Bristol Tennessee Department of Parks and Recreation at the Slater Center, and Mountain Sports Ltd. on Commonwealth Avenue.
