Today, we celebrate World Bee Day🐝, an international day established by the United Nations in 2017 to raise awareness about the importance of bees and beekeeping and spotlight the global challenges bees face. Did you know bees do more than just make honey? Bees are responsible for pollinating 70% of the top 100 food crops around the globe and play a vital role in ecosystems, agriculture, and food production. However, bee populations globally are threatened by ✔️Loss of habitat and food sources ✔️Pesticide exposure ✔️Climate breakdown ✔️Parasites and diseases ✔️Invasive species You can help protect and support bees🐝 by planting a pollinator garden with native flowers🌺, choosing bee-safe alternatives to harmful pesticides, building a bee hotel, supporting local beekeepers, and sharing bee knowledge with friends and family.
REMINDER: The Bristol Bird Club will conduct their monthly walk at Steele Creek Park on THURSDAY, MAY 8th. Recent arrivals to the Park: Both Orchard (pictured) and Baltimore orioles, Blackpoll warbler, Eastern wood-pewee, Cedar waxwing, Rose-breasted grosbeak, Northern parula, Warbling vireo, Red-eyed vireo, Yellow-throated warbler, Black-and-white warbler, Green heron, Scarlet tanager, Spotted sandpiper, Swallows, and more. Meet at the Mill Creek Trailhead on Broad Street at 9:00 am. The walk should last about 2 hours.
