Annual Park Events

Join us for a “Vampire Hunt” Tuesday, August 5th, 3:30pm Keep your wooden stakes, garlic, and crucifixes at home; those are not necessary for these vampires. Meet at the Nature Center to learn about some elusive REAL vampires living in the park. Then we’ll go for a hunt to try to find them. For more information call the Nature Center at (423) 989-5616

The Friends of Steele Creek Nature Center and Park would like to congratulate The Nature Center at Steele Creek Park on achieving accreditation by the American Alliance of Museums (AAM). This national recognition is a significant milestone, earned by fewer than 4% of museums and interpretive centers across the country. The Nature Center now joins an elite group of just 17 accredited institutions in Tennessee—and is one of only two located in the northeastern region of the state. AAM accreditation is the highest national standard for museums in the United States. It signifies a commitment to excellence, accountability, and continued institutional improvement. The honor reflects the hard work and professionalism of the Nature Center staff, as well as the continued support of the City of Bristol, dedicated volunteers, and the surrounding community. We are proud to support the Nature Center in its mission to educate, engage, and inspire. To learn more about Core Standards required for AAM accreditation, visit: https://www.aam-us.org/programs/ethics-standards-and-professional-practices/core-standards-for-museums/ Congratulations again to Jeremy Stout and the entire Nature Center staff on this well-deserved accomplishment. https://www.facebook.com/100068585304878/posts/1041684331461067/?

Join us for a “Mushroom Walk” Friday, July 25th, 4:00pm Meet at the Nature Center for a moderately-strenuous walk in search of neither plant nor animal, but mushrooms! We’ll learn about the biology of these amazing organisms along the way! For more information call the Nature Center at (423) 989-5616

The Friends of Steele Creek Nature Center and Park would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the City of Bristol TN’s Department of Community Relations for their outstanding work in producing a video chronicling the history and impact of our organization. View the video here: https://youtu.be/YGxppM_athM?si=cv94jkRTDfZi0Qgd We are especially grateful to Anne Dunham for her exceptional leadership, creative vision, and attention to detail throughout the entire process. Her dedication to telling the story of Friends in such a compelling and thoughtful way has resulted in a piece that beautifully captures the heart of our mission, the legacy of community service, and the vital connection between people and the natural beauty of Steele Creek Park. This video not only celebrates the rich history of our organization, but also serves as an inspiring reminder of what can be accomplished through collaboration, volunteerism, and a shared love for nature. It is a valuable resource that will help us share our story with new audiences and strengthen support for the park we cherish. We are deeply thankful for the time, talent, and professionalism of the entire Community Relations team. Their work reflects the best of public service and exemplifies the strong partnerships that make our community thrive.
