Mission and Statement of Purpose

“Our mission is to encourage stewardship of our natural world by supporting and promoting our urban green space and nature center as opportunities to learn about and enjoy the outdoors. We engage, inspire and promote educational experiences and physical activities within the Park.”

“The purpose of Friends of Steele Creek Nature Center and Park is to assist the Steele Creek Nature Center and Park as a conservation center within the community of Bristol where land and people can be united for educational, recreational, cultural, and scientific pursuits.”

Objectives

To help protect, preserve, catalog, and manage the park’s natural resources;

To develop natural history and conservation education programs in cooperation with schools, colleges, hospitals, youth groups, and adult organizations which will develop an understanding and appreciation of natural resources;

To cooperate with national, state, county, municipal, and private natural resource agencies in providing an outdoor laboratory in which to demonstrate natural resources problems and management techniques;

To provide opportunities for individual and family pursuit of hobbies or more serious interests in natural resources;

To provide trails and facilities so that individuals and family groups may visit the Center for the recreation and enjoyment of being in the outdoors;

To develop a volunteer program and coordinate find raising programs for the perpetuation and expansion of the Nature Center and Park.
